Pirot-the city!
In cooperation with the Society for Protection of the Environment „Stara planina“ Pirot, PROTECTA started with the action of collecting signatures which are necessary for submission of the civic initiative for the change of the Law on Territorial Organization, by which Pirot is to be given the status of the city. The action is conducted as a part of the project „Ask the citizens“which is supported by USAID (United States Agency for International Development) through the Institute for Sustainable Development.
The action lasted from 5-11 October and the signatures were collected on fifteen stalls on the territory of the entire municipality. In order to fulfill all the requrements for submission of this initiative, it is necessary to collect the signatures of 10% of the population who are on the election list - 5200 in Pirot’s case.
Total number of signatures collected in Pirot is 6709. Together with the expertise on geographic, demographic and economic inticators why Pirot should receive the status of the city, these signatures will be submitted to the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government as a part of the civic initiative.
