Kikinda IS the City!!!
When Minister Milan Markovic visited Kikinda, he said that Kikinda will not receive the status of the city in the next two years. On that occasion the citizens did not have the opportunity to express their opinion about this statement.
Since the activities of local self-government related to this initiative were stopped, Civic Association Kikindski forum, with the full support of partners from other cities and advisory support of "Protecta", continues with the series of actions and the changes of the law are expected in the forthconming period.
In previuos actions related to this issue, Kikindski forum collected required number of signatures (7 000) of the citizens of Kikinda, so that the conditions for civic initiative would be met. Bearing in mind the fact that there haven't been any visible changes by local self-government on this topic since January, the intention of Kikindski forum is to publically express thankfulness to all those citizens who supported this initiative by
their signatures, and at the same time to
include new 18-year-old citizens of Kikinda, who at the time of
signature collecting did not have the voting right, and who will,
within public campaign on the central square on 5 November 2009 have
the opportunity to sign the initiative and by doing that to become responsible for new, future status of the city. This action is part of the project "Ask the citizens", supported by USAID (US Agency for International Development) and ISC (Institute for Sustainable Communities)
Signatures will be collected by the volunteers of Kikindski forum and the action itself will be conducted in cooperation with parliaments of secondary schools and Youth office of Kikinda.
